Where does Balshala meet?

Balshala meets in the premises of Hindu Temple Society, 1421 Lukes Road, Augusta, GA 30909.


Which day of the week and for what duration of time does Balshala meet?

Balshala meets on designated Sundays. Balshala starts at 10:30 AM with morning prayers & assembly at the main temple and ends at 12:00 PM in the Cultural Center. Parent volunteers are requested to distribute snacks and help with clean up of the premises soon after. Children are to be picked up between 12 - 12:15 PM.

Do I have to be a member of Hindu Temple Society (HTS) of Augusta to enroll my child in Balshala?

​Yes, HTS membership is required to enroll your child in Balshala. The program open to children of HTS members only. Click here for HTS membership information.


When during the calendar year does the Balshala program start and end?
The program starts in September on the Sunday after Labor Day and concludes in May on the Sunday before Mothers Day every year with an End-of-year presentation and Mother's Day lunch.


How do I enroll my child in the program?
Registration begins in August each year. Last day for registration is typically the first day of Balshala meeting (in Sept) unless the family/child has newly moved into town or other reasons qualify for late registration!  


How do I obtain additional information or enroll my child in Balshala if I am new in town?

You may contact the Balshala coordinator using the contact form on this website. If you have newly moved into town and wish to enroll your child after the registration deadline, the Balshala coordinator will guide you through the registration process. 


What age group of children participate in Balshala?
Children ages 4 -12 years of age may participate in Balshala.

What language is used to communicate in Balshala?
English is the language used for all instruction and for communication. Sanskrit shlokas and common Sanskrit words used in poojas and rituals are introduced. Hindi classes scheduled on certain Sundays (as posted Balshala calendar) introduces simple Hindi words and phrases.

Who teaches the children?
Classes are taught by parent volunteers according to the learning objectives listed for each age group.


​Does Balshala offer summer programs?

Yes, Balshala camps are offered in the summer for children ages 8 - 12. Balshala camps are open to children of HTS members and are also open to children who are not enrolled in Balshala.


What HTS programs are available to children above 12 years of age?

The Youth Group associated with HTS is open to children above 12 years of age. HTS membership is required.
